      <p><font size="-1">MPLAB ICE 4000 should <b>NOT</b> be plugged
into a USB
port, powered, or plugged into a target board at this time.<br>

have already preinstalled the drivers during MPLAB IDE installation,
read this section and then jump to Step 4. Otherwise follow all
instructions.</font></font></font></li>

        <li> <font size="-1">If you have already plugged MPLAB ICE
4000
into the USB port
and the "Found New Hardware Wizard" has popped up, click <b>Cancel</b>
on that dialog, unplug the MPLAB ICE 4000 and continue with these

into the USB port
and used the&nbsp; "Found New Hardware Wizard" to install drivers
automatically,
you have installed the wrong drivers. Follow the instructions specified
in C:\Program Files\Microchip\MPLAB IDE\ICE 4000\Drivers\<font

The status log will show you the status of the pre-install. If you have
problems, you may want to save this information to a file so you may
refer
to it when you contact customer support. Click the <b>Save Log</b>

MPLAB ICE 4000 to the PC with a USB cable. Then, connect the power
supply
and turn on the unit.</font></font></font> </p>
      <p><font size="-1">If you are using an external USB HUB, make
sure it has
a power supply and is powered or MPLAB ICE 4000 will not work.</font></p>

XP system, this dialog box will appear indicating that the system has

a new hardware device and asking you whether or not to search for
update
software. Select "No, not this time".&nbsp; Click "Next" and continue
with
the steps below.</font></font></font></p>

time a new USB device is plugged in, a small dialog box will appear
indicating
that the system has found a new hardware device. There also may be a
dialog
box that informs the user that a device data base is being built or
updated.</font></font></font> </p>
      <p><font face="timesroman"><font color="#000000"><font size="-1">After
these
dialogs appear, the Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box&nbsp; is
displayed.
Select "Install the software automatically (Recommended)" and click
"Next"
to continue the installation.</font></font></font> </p>
      <p><font face="timesroman"><font color="#000000"><font size="-1"><b>Note:</b>
If you are running <b>Windows 2000</b>, you may not see this dialog or
the next 3 dialogs. Instead, the system will automatically install the
software without asking you. This is OK. Proceed to Step 10.</font></font></font></p>

"Completing
the Found New Hardware Wizard" will appear once the Microchip MPLAB ICE
4000 Firmware Loader has been installed. Click "Finish" to end this
installation
and begin the install of the Firmware Client..</font></font></font></p>

again, this time to install the Microchip MPLAB ICE 4000 Firmware
Client.

4000 Firmware Client has been installed. Click "Finish" to end the USB
